Nahyan lays foundation stone of Zayed University's new campus

Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, has laid the foundation stone of the new Zayed University campus in Khalifa City B.

Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, has laid the foundation stone of the new Zayed University campus in Khalifa City B.

The new campus will be built by Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala) on the directives of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The campus will be built on an area of 213,000 square meters and is planned to accommodate up to 6,000 students by September 2011.

Present at the ceremony were Shaikh Shakhbut Bin Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, CEO and Managing Director of Mubadala, Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, Ahmad Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman of ALDAR Properties, Dr Tayeb Kamaly, Vice Chancellor of The Higher Colleges of Technology, and Dr Daniel Johnson Provost of Zayed University.

In statements at the ceremony, Shaikh Nahyan explained that Zayed University's new campus will not only be a state of the art academic and research facility designed according to the highest international standards in the building of universities and research centres, but will also reflect a combination of traditional and contemporary architectural and engineering elements, highlighting the national identity and architectural heritage of the UAE.

Shaikh Nahyan praised the unstinting patronage and important role which President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan plays in education.

He further extended his gratitude to His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and President of the Abu Dhabi Educational Council for his unconditional support; through their untiring efforts and under their guidance and leadership Zayed University has progressed to the forefront of higher education regionally and nationally.
