Dubai: Most parents of children studying at Modern High School, which imposed a 90 per cent fee increase, were not willing to adhere to the new fee structure.
About 150 parents took part in a press conference on Wednesday and more than 900 parents completed an online survey of which 98 per cent said they oppose the fee hike.
No officials from Global Education Management Systems (GEMS), which operates the school, Knowledge and Human Development Authority [KHDA] and Ministry of Education were present at the conference.
According to GEMS, "GEMS is being forced to move the school from its location in Jumeirah by the end of the 2009 academic session. Faced with the option of closing the school or moving to a new location, GEMS has taken into consideration the best interests of the students and decided to build a new campus."
Parents are more determined than ever to hold on to their belief a 90 per cent hike is "unacceptable".
