Ministry announces reform plans

Last updated:

Dubai: Ministry of Education has announced new administrative structure for effective management of education, in line with the federal strategic plan to reform education.

The education sector in the UAE faces a number of challenges and the technological advances add to the challenges, said Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Education in a statement.

"It is the duty of schools to arm students with the best practices needed to keep up with the developments in the country and worldwide," he said.

Educational reform involves the restructuring of the Ministry of Education in particular, with the formation of educational councils and institutions, he said.

New role

"The Ministry has acquired a new role with the establishment of decentralised educational councils," he said. "It is a big responsibility."

The ministry is given expanded jurisdiction over educational zones and schools to achieve financial and administrative independence and help development.

"It is no longer possible to work with a worn-out organisational structure, which includes six sectors, 27 central departments and hundreds of officials," the minister said.

"It is no longer possible to tolerate the effects of this system, such as clashes in the areas of specialties and duplicate performances and roles," he said. The ministry hopes the new structure would achieve its targets, which is a commitment and a responsibility said the minister.
