Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, has approved in his capacity as the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department, the International Diploma in Judicial Studies, awarded by the Academy of Judiciary Specialised Training in Abu Dhabi to judicial trainees.
The approval follows accreditation of the diploma by the Zayed University as per international standards in graduate studies by other countries.
The diploma meets all the academic accreditation requirements of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Counsellor Sultan Saeed Al Badi, Undersecretary of the Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Board of the Academy, pointed out that the diploma in judicial studies "is the first of its kind to be issued in the region, whereas similar diploma degrees awarded by the Arab universities are limited to pure theoretical studies in one branch of the law".
He added that the dip-loma, issued by the academy in co-operation with Zayed University, combines the academic components represented in law studies, and the scientific component represented in handling legal cases, in addition to components represented in the skills of the judge and the prosecutor in aspects of management, judicial and language skills.
He added that with the best international standards applicable in graduate studies, the judicial trainees study for 36 academic credit hours which is equal to 460 teaching hours in similar establishments in the world. This will qualify the trainee to gain a graduate study degree approved by the Ministry of Higher Education in cooperation with the Zayed University.
Zayed University in co-operation with the Ministry of Higher Education, is also considering promoting the diploma to a masters degree in judicial studies on condition that the trainee meets the requirements that will qualify him to earn a scientific degree in accordance with academic principles.
As for the training programme for the prosecutors, it has been arranged for prosecutors to work as judges in the courts in the judicial department.
The studies include 11 specialised and advanced subjects in all branches of the law featuring practical and training in logical analysis skills, legal thought in cases, and regulations governing cases and effective administration of the court.
