Abu Dhabi: The care given by the wise leadership of the UAE led by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan comes from a deep-rooted conviction in the role of the scientific and educational process in serving the country's strategy and its future plans to achieve comprehensive development, said General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Shaikh Mohammad also said during his visit to the new campus of the Zayed University in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, that the great support of Shaikh Khalifa to the higher educational sector stems from a keenness to find ambitious educational institutes that are able to build a highly capable team that is accomplished scientifically and open to the cultures of others.

Traditional architecture

During the visit made yesterday, Shaikh Mohammad was accompanied by Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and was received by the Dean of the University and a number of its senior officials.

Shaikh Mohammad toured the new campus, which has been designed according to the highest standards and specifications in the area of educational facilities and buildings, mixing modern concepts with the country's traditional lines of architecture, thus providing a comprehensive educational and technical environment for students.

Shaikh Mohammad started his tour in the conference centre of the campus which offers great facilities and technical support, putting the building in an advanced location among other centres across the globe.

The conference hall which is named after Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the UAE General Women's Union, which can accommodate 1,000 people.

The conference centre also includes a multi-purpose hall which is big enough for 800 people.

Shaikh Mohammad also visited the dining room in the central building, which is 10,500 square metres, and the children's care centre, with a total area of 2,400 square metres.

Campus library

He also visited the new campus' library which includes tens of thousands of books and specialised references, and multi-language videotapes, housed in a total area of 22,400 square metres in a three-story building.

The new campus has been built on a plot of land with an area of 188,000 square metres and includes three main groups comprised of 28 buildings.
