Dubai: As debate over the increase in school fees rages in Dubai, the average family is reeling from an already over-stretched budget.

While sending two children to school takes up a large chunk of their income, the increases of tuition fees have made access to quality education a diminishing possibility for many.

D.S, from India, says that in the last five years, the cost of his two children's education has increased by over 70 per cent, yet the family's income has gone up by just 30 per cent. "I have received two increments of less than Dh600 since 2005, where as every year my kids' school fees have shot up by 15 to 20 per cent," said D.S., a service manager from Mangalore, India. He added that his monthly savings have dropped from Dh4,200 five years ago to less than Dh2,500 now as he's spending more money on rent, groceries and school fees.

"We've been forced to cut corners by reducing all kinds of entertainment. I withdrew my membership at a video library, the weekly outing and eating out have also been reduced to just once in a month. Shopping is restricted to bare essentials and we travel to India only once every three years," he said.

it is not the cost of education going up. it is the higher board authorites pocket size which is increasing . school used to be a place of learning but now groups have made it a source of high income. what goes up at a rapid speed all over the world also comes down at the same speed . schooling in dubai will also come down and also on people who have changed the meaning for school and made it a place of business
