Event management programme to test girls' social skills
Fashion, passion and compassion are the key elements in becoming a volunteer in one of the first dedicated event management programmes for teenagers.
Dubai: Fashion, passion and compassion are the key elements in becoming a volunteer in one of the first dedicated event management programmes for teenagers.
Modelled after similar programmes in North America, the Festival Centre Teen Board encourages girls between 13 and 18 years to put their social skills to good use.
As a "revolving educational and social programme" that teaches young women to deal with all things fabulous, the Teen Board offers members the opportunity to participate in various aspects of the fashion and retail industry. This includes modelling, retail operations, fashion design, marketing and public relations.
The phenomenal speed with which Dubai is becoming an international fashion hub is no secret, according to Dubai Festival City's marketing manager Theresa Backus Dunn.
She said: "This is a great opportunity for girls with the right personalities to become part of the change."
Community service is also a vital component of the Teen Board's responsibilities. "Depending on what part of the year it is, we will collaborate with different organisations to arrange special events and charity fundraisers," Dunn said. An example is the Shaikh Mohammad Centre for Cultural Understanding.
Running for an entire school year from September to June, the pupils must commit four to six hours each month. Ten volunteers will be selected.
The application deadline is May 25.
