Dubai: Less than a week into the six-week Dubai Cares campaign to put one million children through primary school, over Dh250 million has been pledged, surpassing the Dh200 million target.

The total amount raised for the Dubai Cares campaign was pushed over the initial target by massive donations, including Dh10 million pledged yesterday by Brigadier Mohammad Abdul Rahim Al Ali.

The public are also contributing to the campaign spearheaded by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his children, via SMS, bank transfer and mailing options.

Donation boxes have also been placed in locations around Dubai. According to campaign organisers, a donation of Dh100 can provide two children with schoolbooks and supplies for a year.

A Dubai Cares Week is also being planned during the week of Eid Al Fitr. For more details on the Dubai Cares campaign visit www.dubaicares.ae
