Dubai: Disney Symphony - the magical music of Walt Disney - will be staged at the Dubai Creek Park on October 15, from 7pm to 9pm, as part of the Dubai Cares campaign.

The symphony orchestra will present a musical journey featuring works from the early classics and recent releases of Walt Disney's movies, including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, and The Lion King. Two giant LED screens will simultaneously display scenes from the movies.

All proceeds from the sale of tickets will be donated to the Dubai Cares campaign, launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Tickets will go on sale at 10am today and can be purchased by calling 04-3662277 or online at www.dubaicares.ae.

Dubai Cares is the latest in a line of international initiatives in helping secure a better tomorrow for future generations.

It will contribute to a global drive to help countries achieve their UN Millennium development goals of providing primary education to every child by 2015.

Meanwhile, Jumbo Electronics has pledged a sum of Dh10 million and announced that a percentage of sales made during the next six weeks will be donated to the Dubai Cares initiative.

Iftar organised

Vidya Chhabria, Chairperson of Jumbo Electronics, said: "Jumbo has always supported activities that are beneficial to the community and children. Dubai Cares is a wonderful project that gives hope to millions of children, who do not have access to basic education.

"Our own Jumbo Cares programme will contribute immensely to the Dubai Cares campaign to help put a smile on the faces of less fortunate children".

Dubai International Academy has also contributed Dh500,000 to the campaign to provide education to the less privileged children of the world.

The total amount donated came from contributions made by the school's shareholders, staff, parents and pupils. The donation was made to Dubai Cares at a grand iftar at the school in the Emirates Hills.

The iftar, which was organised by parents, was the most culturally diverse of its kind to be hosted by a school in the UAE.

It was attended by over 2,000 parents and pupils from over 65 different nationalities. The guests were able to select from a wide choice of cuisines that were prepared by the parents.

Present at the iftar were Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA); Jameela Al Muhairi, Executive Director, KHDA; Asma Maldwala, Project Manager, and Laila Mohebi, Assistant Manager / Registration & Admission, international schools. DIA was represented by two of its Founding Partners, Avi Bhojani and Hamdi Osman.

Commenting on the support extended by DIA, Dr. Abdulla Al Karam said: "This is more significant since DIA is a miniature version of Dubai with students coming from diverse backgrounds.

"These activities show the good qualities and intentions of the DIA team, who have used this opportunity to turn the good intentions into actions.

"We are confident that these activities would help achieve the bigger goal - that of providing primary education to a million underprivileged children in developing countries. Children helping children is the best form of charity."

Bhojani, who is also Managing Director of the school, said: "DIA's contribution to this worthy cause reflects its commitment to support projects that will benefit the community, especially children who form the foundation of the growing global knowledge economy".
