Dubai: Expressing his joy at hearing about an Emirati couple who cancelled their wedding celebrations to donate expenses to Dubai Cares, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said he hoped the move reflected Emirati society in general.

"This couple has made me feel proud and I am confident their values represent the spirit of a large number of the Emirati youth," he said.

He contrasted the gesture with a criticism of those who did not contribute to Dubai Cares, singling out a wealthy Dubai merchant.

"There was a small merchant once. My father helped him and he became a big merchant. In the last few years I helped him too, and his wealth tripled. This merchant was absent from this campaign," he said.
