Australian university reaches milestone
The University of Wollongong in Dubai's (UOWD) total graduates has swelled to 3,000 since its inception 15 years ago when 238 students received their degrees last night.

Dubai: The University of Wollongong in Dubai's (UOWD) total graduates has swelled to 3,000 since its inception 15 years ago when 238 students received their degrees last night.
The students received their degrees in the presence of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
The Winter Graduation Ceremony is the second to be held this year and the combined number of more than 1,000 makes this the largest number of graduating students in the history of the Dubai-based university.
Officials say the number of graduating students at UOWD has been rising significantly in the past few years. Last year, a record 736 students graduated and in 2006, 610 students received their degrees.
Established in 1993, UOWD was the first Australian university in Dubai to be licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The university now has over 3,300 students at the Dubai Knowledge Village campus.
Chancellor of the University of Wollongong, Australia, Michael H. Codd said UOWD's producing more than 3,000 graduates is "a significant milestone for an institution which started as the Institute of Australian Studies way back in 1993.
"This ceremony is a public recognition of your years of work and endeavour," he said.
Waldo Steyn, a student of Master of Business Administration course, said: "The degree certificate does not tell the world how we have shared our cultures; how we have worked together to complete our assignments and how we have learned from each other."
Convocation: Skyline gives degrees
Some 100 students from the Sharjah-based Skyline University received their degrees at the institution's 18th graduation ceremony.
Shaikh Abdullah Bin Salim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, attended the event.
Skyline University College president Kamal Puri said this was the first year that students graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in four majors.
