Abu Dhabi: The academic year 2009-2010 will see pupils in the public high school spend an extra 90 minute in their class rooms in the emirate.
The extension of pupil's school time from August 30 is part of a ten year plan which expected to launch today by the Abu Dhabi Education Council.
Discussions are ongoing by the Council with parents on the extended school time. The objective is to groom pupils academically to enter university and will concentrate on subjects like mathematics, Arabic language, English language, and physical education and leadership skills for the students.
The extended period of school time will have schools providing lunch for pupils and transport back home at the end of the day.
An official spokesman said that a series of rapid improvement initiatives in the education system is in the pipeline and will be announced soon.
