6 UAE University students to train in Scotland

The programme aims at developing critical thinking skills among students

Al Ain: Six students from UAE University (UAEU) have been selected to participate in a month-long intensive training programme at the Al Maktoum College of Higher Education in Scotland.

The programme, which is titled Multiculturalism and Leadership, is sponsored by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance. The students will be offered an experience in the field of Islamic Studies with a unique frame and new agenda developed by the college.

The programme, which commenced in 2008, has benefited some 589 female students from UAE and Qatar since its establishment, said Mirza Al Sayegh, director of the office of Shaikh Hamdan. “The main goal of this academic training programme is to motivate the participants, develop their knowledge and skills, ways of critical thinking and prepare them with the required knowledge and abilities for active leadership socially and academically,” he said.

A total of 48 Emirati women students were selected for this year’s programme from different universities in the UAE representing UAEU, Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai, American University in Sharjah, College of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Dubai, and British University in Dubai. The graduation ceremony will be held on the 4TH of March at Dundee in Scotland.

UAEU has been participating in this training programme since its inception. Some 114 students from the university have benefited from this programme to date, said Professor Mohammad Yousuf Baniyas, Provost and Chief Academic Officer of UAEU.
