Dubai: Careers UAE saw an increased drive for Emiratisation as 20 new companies participated in the 10th annual fair, which kicked off Sunday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The exhibition brought more than 100 national and international companies under one roof for job seeking Emiratis. New comers include: Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club and the Gulf Energy Maritime and National Rehabilitation Centre.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, inaugurated the event.

Shaikh Hamdan toured the Dubai Municipality's pavilion at the career fair, which is being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Shaikh Hamdan was briefed about the training and service programme provided by the human resources department at Dubai Municipality.

He stressed the importance of attracting different specialisations to join the Dubai Municipality, especially lawyers and engineers.

Shaikh Hamdan indicated the importance of appointing Emiratis, the holders of secondary and preparatory school certificates in the administrative jobs at the civic body to encourage them to complete their studies.

Strategy

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, stressed the municipality's keenness to participate in the career fair to streamline its strategy to rehabilitate citizens and employ them in suitable jobs.

He reiterated that the Dubai Municipality pavilion aims to educate the youth and graduates about various jobs available with the municipality, and provide consultations with students about their future post-graduate studies to enable them to join the civic body.

Helal Saeed Al Merri, CEO of the Dubai World Trade Centre, the show's organiser, noted the relevance of this year's event.

"As international and local firms in the UAE seek to align their strategies to take advantage of the impending economic recovery, this event ensures more UAE nationals are given opportunities to connect with prospective employers interested in developing UAE talent in the work force," said Al Merri.

Industries

A prominent feature at this year's fair is the segmentation of companies into 10 sectors which include banking, finance, government, private, oil and gas, trade and telecommunications.

"Our aim is to direct all sorts of disciplines in the smelting sector towards UAE nationals," said Saeed Al Mazroui, CEO of Emirates Aluminium (EA).

"We are looking to gain maximum exposure for the possibility of new interests of potential employees at all levels," he added.
