Dubai: A young national who was being tried for rape charges will be jailed for having sexual intercourse with a Filipino male and “not raping him''.

Dubai Court of First Instance altered the rape charges, which were pressed against the 19-year-old national, identified as S.I., and decided that he had sex with the Filipino. The Filipino admitted earlier in court that he used to have sex with both men and women in his country.

The court sentenced S.I. to six months in jail for having sex and theft. His 19-year-old compatriot W.A. and 20-year-old Iraqi, W.F., were acquitted of aiding and abetting a crime and stealing the Filipino's mobile phone over lack of evidence.

In his statement to the court, the victim said he was waiting for a taxi when the three suspects approached him and agreed to drop him on Jumeirah Beach Road.

Once in the car, the three suspects took him in a different direction.

When he asked the driver, he was told that one of them wanted to be dropped in Al Barsha area.

Then the driver stopped the vehicle in a remote area where they took his mobile phone.

The 22-year-old said he was afraid and agreed to have sex with S.I. who held a knife to his face and threatened to kill him.

S.I.'s lawyer told the judge: “My client is not guilty of raping the victim who slept with him willingly.''
