Woman's case referred to Public Prosecution
The case of a woman who was caught engaging in sexual activities with a British tourist on a Jumeirah beach has been referred to the Public Prosecution, a senior police official said on Thursday.
Dubai: The case of a woman who was caught engaging in sexual activities with a British tourist on a Jumeirah beach has been referred to the Public Prosecution, a senior police official said on Thursday.
The woman, a British resident in Dubai for the past three years, was caught with her friend on a public beach last Friday.
Gulf News reported on Thursday that she had been sacked by her employers following the incident.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, acting chief of Dubai Police, said the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution. She will be charged with having a sexual affair, indecency in public and insulting a police officer.
The officer warned the couple when he found them on the beach. When he returned ten minutes later he found they had not stopped. The policeman tried to arrest them, but the woman abused him verbally and tried to hit him.
"The United Arab Emirates has certain traditions and values, and is an Islamic country. It does not tolerate such behaviour and everyone here must respect our culture as we respect theirs," he said.
Maj Gen Al Mazeina said the British woman was arrested in an indecent position in a public place and this behaviour is punishable in most countries. He said the woman and her friend seemed drunk, but that their test results are not out yet.
