Ras Al Khaimah: An unlicensed Emirati driver ran over and killed a five-year-old compatriot girl on Saturday.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene on Shoukah-Al Munaie Street, south of Ras Al Khaimah.

According to Major Juma Kanfash of RAK's Traffic and Licensing Department, the dead girl, identified as Shammah, had been in the company of her family when the accident happened. Her family members had spotted a wadi and her father had parked his car so that he and the rest of the family could walk to the wadi to enjoy the view, he said.

Major Kanfash said that a speeding car, driven by an Emirati youth, suddenly appeared and ran over the girl. The young driver was not paying attention to the street and the people there, he added.

Major Kanfash led a team of police officers to investigate the accident. Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene due to the severe injuries and fractures she sustained to different parts of her body.

The victim's body was referred to a hospital morgue and the police investigators launched an investigation and took all legal measures against the driver.

Major Kanfash called on the public to be extremely cautious and to make all necessary arrangements to ensure the safety of young children on picnics and on trips out.

He urged parents never to allow their children to get behind the wheel of a car until they obtain a driving licence.

A total of 27 people have been killed in Ras Al Khaimah in road accidents since the beginning of this year.

The driver should be punished. The authorities should take strict measures to stop illegal driving. May God give peace to her departed soul.

I noticed on service roads near residential areas, speeding vehicles go by all the time, without concern, as if they are on highways. A vehicle is like a weapon if unused properly. It can kill.

Parents of the victim should be held responsible for the safety of their children. What I notice here in Dubai is that mostly children are left behind or parents allow their child to go at their own in crossing the streets. It seems like they don't care of the dangers that may arise to their kids. Never ever lose your grip from your children, especially when crossing the road.

Parents and family members when ever you happen to cross the road with small children please hold their hand and cross the road along with them instead of allowing the children to follow you. My condolences and prayers to the family of the child.

We all are responsible for these sorts of incidents, we should fullfil our social responsibilities, why we allow them to do illegal things. I think in this case the driver must be taken into task along with owner of the car because first of all he had initiated the fatal incident by allowing an unlicensed driver. Furthermore, I dont have words to condole to this grieved family but my prayers are with them.

The person who is driving a car without a license should be fined. And if that person makes an accident and somebodys life goes in that case, the driver without the licence should be in the jail. There should be stands on all the streets where the police will check everybody's driving license.

This tragic story should serve as a wake up call. Underaged and unlicensed drivers is a serious problem. It is not enough to focus on speeders alone when there are inexperienced and unregistered drivers on the roads. There clearly needs to be a system of driver education that starts in schools so that all youth are given the same fundamental facts and instructions about driving safety.

Just Ridicolous!! this is totally unacceptable. Ther should be some kind of a random check if drivers actually have their license. Despite all these tough rules and regulations being implemented, people are not paying attention to details and at the end we need to risk our lives as well as others. I feel so sorry for the girl. How will drivers get attention when they drive fast on the road? These days roads have turned out to be like a formula one track as many people want to compete with each other. Shouldn't we be responsible and question ourselves for all this cause? Go through the reports and you will see how many lives have been lost this year due to reckless driving. Can we stop this please and learn to drive peacefully and carefully on the road?

The harshest punishment should be handed over to the driver to set an example to unlicensed drivers. He has taken the life of an innocent child just to satisify his wishes. I think he is a criminial and should be tried in like one. My heartiest sympthaies to the family of the child and my prayers for them from my crying heart.
