Two men acquitted of possessing stolen mobiles
Dubai: Two workers have been jailed for three years each for raiding a massage spa, threatening masseuses with knives and stealing cash and mobile phones after midnight.
The Pakistani workers, 22-year-old R.A. and 20-year-old O.M., were said to have pointed two knives in the face of two masseuses and threatened to kill them if they did not give them their money and mobile phones.
A Filipina masseuse claimed that five Pakistani men armed with knives and sharp tools forced their way into the massage centre in Al Ghusais at midnight in August and robbed them.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted R.A. and O.M. of using knives to threaten the victims while they carried out the heist.
According to the accusation sheet, prosecutors said R.A., O.M. and three other suspects, who remain at large, used weapons [sharp tools] when they stormed into the spa and stole five mobile phones and Dh1,470 in cash from the register.
According to Tuesday’s judgement two Pakistani suspects, 28-year-old M.A. and 23-year-old A.A., were cleared of possessing two of the stolen mobile phones.
R.A. and O.M. will be deported following the completion of their jail terms.
The four men entered an innocent plea when they appeared in court.
The Filipina masseuse testified that the five men took out knives and held them to their faces.
“”They asked us to stand still and give them money. One of the assailants took the register’s key, opened it and took the cash. Then they took us all to the kitchen and asked us to hand over our mobile phones,” claimed the masseuse.
Her Chinese coworker confirmed her statement.
An Emirati policeman testified that the thieves locked the masseuses in the spa and locked it from outside.
“Primary interrogations led to the arrest of R.A. and O.M., who confessed to the heist along with the three who are at large. Meanwhile M.A. and A.A. admitted that R.A. handed gave them the mobiles,” claimed the policeman.
The primary judgement remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
