Two vehicles go up in flames after separate accidents in Fujairah
Two cars went up in flames in separate accident on Saturday night, civil defence officials said.
Fujairah: Two cars went up in flames in separate accident on Saturday night, civil defence officials said.
In the first incident, a refrigerated van, used to deliver fish, collided with a donkey near the major Wadi–Al Hilou tunnel.
According to Major Mohammad Ahmad Al Ka'abi, Director of Kalba Civil Defence, the driver was taken aback by the animal that can be commonly seen roaming around the mountainous areas and can constitute a serious road hazard.
The collision immediately killed the animal and caused the vehicle to burst into flames.
The Omani driver of the vehicle escaped unharmed.
In a similar incident in Mirbeh, a four-wheel drive vehicle collided with a motorcycle that was apparently left abandoned in the middle of the road after a previous accident.
The driver and his family managed to escape from their car when they noticed the smoke.
Lieutenant Colonel Ali Al Tenaiji, Director of Fujairah Civil Defence, said the crash led to the explosion of the car's petrol tank, startling local residents.
The lack of street light in the area's inner roads is thought to have contributed to the accident.
