Two Al Ain workers buried in ditch of sewage pipe
Rescue works still on to uncover the bodies of the pair
Al Ain: Two workers are believed to be dead as they were buried in an 8 metre-deep trench of a sewage system project in Al Zaafaraniya, Al Ain.
The sand on the two sides of the ditch collapsed on the workers as they were trying to fix a pipe. The accident occurred at 3.45pm and the bodies of Ram Kuman, 35, and Silver Raj, 28, were still missing at 9pm as rescue works by the civil defence and emergency team continued.
Three other workers, in addition to the foreman of the site, escaped the accident as they left five minutes before the collapse of the sand to catch up with the Asr [afternoon] prayers.
The supervisor of the group was arrested and is being questioned by the police to determine his responsibilities for lack of safety arrangement on the site.
