Dubai: Three men have been sentenced to five years in jail each for attempting to sell two Uzbek sisters to a secret policeman for Dh21,000 for sexual purposes, a court ruled a yesterday. One of the sentenced men is still at large.

The Dubai Court of First Instance accused the three men, a 24-year-old Uzbek porter, his compatriot C.A (who is at large) as well as a 32-year-old Iranian merchant, of violating the human trafficking law.

Pronouncing yesterday's verdict, Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad said the three accused will be deported after the completion of their sentence.

"I am innocent. I didn't commit a human trafficking crime. I don't even know the two girls whose names were mentioned in the arraignment sheet ... I was forced to confess and sign declaration of guilt papers which were written in Arabic that I don't understand," said 24-year-old S.H when he defended himself in court.

The merchant, R.A, also pleaded not guilty.

According to the arraignment sheet, an Uzbek woman named Zaynab, brought the sisters N.Q and O.Q to work as waitresses in Dubai. Zaynab conspired with R.A and exploited the sisters, forcing them to have sex with men for money. Zaynab remains at large and wanted by Dubai police.

Records said C.A held the two sisters at his flat in Sharjah. An Emirati lieutenant testified that they received information that S.H was trafficking women for sexual purposes.
