Fujairah: A teenager with a history of violence who attacked a teacher will on Wednesday face assault charges.
The 16-year-old, A.A.R., was arrested after hitting a chemistry teacher over the head with a glass bottle.
The Sudanese teacher, A.A.K, was assaulted last Wednesday at the Anas Bin Al Nadhir Secondary school in Fujairah, during a school football game.
The teacher was trying to keep spectators off the pitch when he spoke to A.A.R, who was expelled from the school two years ago.
As the teacher walked away, the ex-pupil followed him and hit him on the head with a glass bottle.
The teacher was knocked unconscious by the assault, which left him bleeding heavily with cuts to the head requiring stitches.
Police were called in and the teenager was arrested.
Over the last two years, the same teenager has set fire to the car of another teacher and smashed the windows of a car belonging to the school's Assistant Principal.
Recovering at home, the teacher said that he was neither physically nor psychologically ready to resume teaching.
“I used to be a strong personality at the school, but now I don't feel like going back there and facing the students,'' he said.
Juma Khalfan Al Kindi, director of Fujairah Education Zone, said that violence in schools is not tolerated.
