Suspects deny attempting to drown watchman

Dubai: Three men are on trial for attempting to drown a watchman who reportedly scolded them when one of them peed in front of him at a beachside in Jebel Ali.
The 24-year-old Pakistani watchman claimed that the three Emirati suspects seemed to be drunk when one of them undressed and peed infront of him.
"When I asked him to stop what he was doing, the three suspects assaulted me and they even carried me and tried to drown me to death ... they didn't allow me to breath as they plunged my head in the seawater ... yet I was saved thanks to one of my colleagues and other beachgoers who stopped the suspects," claimed the Pakistani watchman in his testimony.
The trio, identified as 41-year-old manager M.M., assistant director S.T., and 32-year-old policeman M.B., pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday.
"The claimant tried to assault me and I only hit him back in an act of self-defence ... I didn't try to kill him," the manager told Presiding Judge Abdul Majid Al Nezamy yesterday.
The two other suspects also pleaded innocent. The Public Prosecution charged the trio with attempted murder of the watchman, A.K., and beating him.
"I was on duty near a barrier which carried a warning sign that asked visitors to stay 22 feet away from the barrier ... one of the heavily drunk trio stood up and peed then he looked at me and said 'If... you'. His indecent behaviour infuriated me and when I asked him why he cursed me, he repeated what he said. The trio then assaulted me because I phoned and informed my supervisor," alleged the claimant.
