Officers seize nearly 7kg from suspects
Sharjah: Two men accused of possessing more than six kilograms of opium have been arrested.
Colonel Ahmad Abdul Aziz, acting director of the anti-drug department at Sharjah Police, said the anti-narcotics section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sharjah Police received a tip-off that Sh.M.D. and J.M.J. were in possession of a large quantity of opium and were allegedly looking for buyers.
Police followed the Pakistani suspects and caught them as they tried to sell the drugs to a number of people.
Sharjah Police confiscated 6.961 kilograms of opium in addition to tools used to measure the quantity of opium. During questioning the suspects confessed to selling narcotics in Sharjah.
The case has been transferred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.
“The drug in all its forms is a prohibited narcotic substance in the country. The seized goods were confiscated and the suspects were referred to the anti-drugs department at Sharjah Police General Headquarters for further investigation,” Colonel Abdul Aziz said.
