Sharjah: The Sharjah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested an Indian employee for stealing jewellery worth nearly Dh225,000 from his Emirati employer.

The employer, identified as M.S.H., informed the police that someone had entered his sister’s house and stolen a gold chain studded with diamonds worth Dh225,000 in addition to other gold ornaments.

A police inspection of the victim’s house, however, did not indicate any traces of a break-in.

Investigation revealed that the victim had travelled abroad several months ago and kept her jewellery inside a box and wrapped it with newspaper. She then sent the box to a money exchanger owned by an Emirati family in order to keep them safe until she returned to the UAE.

Police investigation showed that an Indian employee, identified as A.A.B., who was working at the Emirati money exchanger, had stolen the jewellery.

Confession

Police arrested the suspect who confessed to his crime. He told the police that he had opened the box, taken out the contents and restored the box in its place so that the theft would not be discovered by other employees.

The suspect informed the police where he had sold the jewellery for Dh34,700. He has been referred to public prosecution for further action.

Sharjah police warned public not to leave money and other valuables in unsafe places. They should keep them safe or deposit them in banks in order to protect them from theft.
