Sharjah: The Sharjah Appeal Court on Wednesday sentenced 17 Indian men to six months in jail for consuming and selling alcohol.

The 17 men have been in jail since 2009 on charges of killing a Pakistani man and assaulting three others in a bootlegging fight in Al Sajja Industrial Area.

The court had revoked the death sentence against these men in September last year after the victim's family accepted blood money.

However, the case was re-opened in January due to a bootlegging case that was lodged against the men.

The previous cases were dropped by Sharjah Court, according to their defence lawyer Abdullah Mohamed Salman.

Sharjah Appeal Court had revoked their death sentence on September 12 for the murder as a blood money (Diyyah) worth Dh 3.4 million accepted by victim's family.
