Dubai: Seven people, including a child, sustained injuries in a gas cylinder blast that blew the roof off a traditional villa in Al Hamriya in Deira in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A Dubai Civil Defence spokesman told Gulf News one person sustained moderate injuries while six others sustained minor injuries.

He said the explosion caused the roof of the house to collapse, as the explosion affected the wall, which mainly supported the roof.

The spokesman said some of the injured who sustained minor injuries were treated on the spot, while some were taken to Rashid Hospital for moderate injuries and treatment for burns.

He said a seven-year-old child was among the injured. The house accommodated a number of families. One of the victims was an Egyptian and the rest were Indians.

He said the scene of the accident was handed over to fire experts from Dubai Police to determine the cause of the gas explosion.
