A man who shot his elder brother in the stomach in the early hours on Saturday and then fled the scene has been arrested.
Ras Al Khaimah: A man who shot his elder brother in the stomach in the early hours on Saturday and then fled the scene has been arrested.
The 22-year-old Emirati, identified as S.R., from the remote area of Shaam was arrested on charges of attempted murder of his 25-year-old brother, identified as T.R., in their home.
The victim was taken to a hospital and underwent several operations to save his life.
Lieutenant Colonel Salem Sultan Al Darmaki, who heads the Investigation Section at the police CID, said the crime was reported to the Police Operation Room and the report stated that an Emirati shot his elder brother and fled the scene.
Shaikh Taleb Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chief of RAK Police, instructed the investigators to conduct a major search to arrest the man who hid in another area of the emirate.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Darmaki said the suspect was arrested soon after the incident and was put behind bars.
'Out of mind'
"During the initial police investigation with the suspect, he confessed to having shot his brother following an argument and that he was out of his mind when the incident took place."
S.R. grabbed the rifle from a room in the house.
Relatives and sources in Shaam said the victim was inquiring about the family car, but he was told by another family member that S.R had gone out with the car.
An angry T.R. approached the room of S.R. and smashed its windows as a punishment.
When family members informed S.R., he argued with his brother, grabbed the rifle and shot him in the stomach.
