Sharjah: The body of the woman who was run over by a car on Sunday morning is still to be identified by Sharjah Police.

The six-month pregnant woman, who is presumed to be of Asian origin, died after she was hit by a vehicle driven by a 45-year-old driver while crossing the Al Ittihad Road.

Sharjah Police have urged the public to help identify the body. A senior official at Al Qasimi Hospital refused to explain what injuries the victim sustained.

Police said the driver was arrested and legal action will be taken against him.

The stretch of the Al Ittihad Road that starts after the Khulafa bridge up until the Ansar Mall has been a danger zone for pedestrians who run across the road, often ending up either dead or injured.
