Dubai: The Chief of Dubai Police on Tuesday suggested engaging a team of specialised international investigators to check the evidence gathered by Dubai Police in the assassination of Sulim Yamadayev in Dubai last month.
Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, said Dubai Police had gathered strong evidence before accusing Chechen Deputy Prime Minister and member of Duma, the Russian Federation Parliament, Adam Delimkhanov.
Sulim Yamadayev, a foe of Kremlin-backed Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, was shot on March 28 in the car park of an apartment block in Dubai.
The Chechen President on Monday rejected the accusations, saying they were "not based on any objective fact". He said that Delimkhanov is his close companion in arms, his friend and his brother and above all he is his right-hand man.
"Any statements against him, I take as statements against me," Kadyrov said in a statement sent to news agencies.
"Dubai Police have irrefutable evidence that convict all the suspects involved in this crime, otherwise, it would not release the details of the case and name the suspects," Lt Gen Dahi said, in reply to a statement by Kadyrov, on placing Delimkhanov in Dubai Police's Wanted List.
He stressed that the Chechen President has to refute the involvement of the wanted suspects in the murder of Yamadayev.
He said this was not the first time Dubai Police are dealing with such crimes and have a long experience in the field of search and investigation.
Russian diplomats in the UAE refused to comment when contacted by Gulf News.
