Police hold two suspects on theft charges
Two stores were broken into in February and money was taken from their safes
Dubai: Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested two suspects on theft charges.
One of the two suspects had entered the country illegally, while the other remained illegally after the expiration of his visa.
Two stores were broken into in February, one in the Big Al Rafa'a Souq and the other in Naif Souq. The locks at both stores were broken.
The first incident took place on February 5.
One of the store's employees discovered Dh50,000 had been stolen from the safe when he came in to work in the morning.
A number of mobile phones, watches and electronic devices were also missing. When the police arrived at the crime scene, they discovered that the thief had escaped through a window on the second floor.
The second incident took place on February 17 in Naif Souq. A sum of Dh15,375 was stolen from the safe in the store, but the thief forgot a cap at the crime scene.
The police connected the two incidents to one that occurred a year ago in Souq Naif, where Dh10,000 was stolen in a similar manner.
The criminal investigation team carried out an intensive surveillance in Naif Souq. On February 24, two suspects fell into the trap set by the police. Both suspects M.M. and M.H.K. are Afghanis.
