Dubai: Police have arrested two men allegedly involved in a swindling scam while the other two have fled the country.

Two of the suspects allegedly took part in convincing the victim of their expertise in managing a car rental office and are accused of selling the cars later.

On December 29, Al Muraqabat Police Station received a report from A.H., an Emirati, who said he was cheated by two Syrian men identified as H.J. and S.N.

The victim told police that he had bought 12 cars and had financed them through a bank three months ago.

He then opened a car rental office in Al Baraha area and appointed S.N. as the manager. He had been recommended by the victim's work colleague (S.N.'s brother).

On December 22, the victim left the country. When he came back after five days, he found the car rental office closed and there was no cars in front of the office.

When he queried about the two suspects, he discovered that they had fled the country.

Transfer

The victim then checked with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to check the status of the rental office cars.

He found that their registration was transferred to another man identified as B.K., an Iraqi.

When the victim checked with the bank, he found that the cars were still mortgaged, but the first suspect (H.J.), who worked in financing, used his position and faked documents in the name of the victim's establishment.

He also faked the owner's signature and was able to release the cars from their bank mortgages.

Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), formed a team to investigate the matter.

The investigation team found out that two suspects had fled the country to their hometown after handing over the operation to a fourth suspect R.H., a Syrian.

The suspect allegedly presented the faked documents to the RTA and then transferred the registration of the cars to B.K.

The CID team arrested R.H. in Al Baraha area. It also arrested B.K. on the same day in Sharjah and recovered eight of the sold cars.
