Pedestrian killed as truck runs over him at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai

A truck ran over a pedestrian, killing him on the spot, at Jebel Ali Port, the police said.

Dubai: A truck ran over a pedestrian, killing him on the spot, at Jebel Ali Port, the police said.

The accident took place around 11am on Thursday in Jebel Ali Port near Gate 3, which is a trucks assembly location, said the police.

The victim was standing behind the truck when the driver reversed without paying much attention.

Meanwhile, 16 labour portakabins were gutted in a fire that broke out at 9:29am on Thursday in Lesseli area on Al Ain Road. No one was injured.

The fire broke out in the middle of the compound, which has around 100 portakabins. The Civil Defence teams were able to control the fire at 10:10am and were also able to cool down a diesel tanker that was near the compound to prevent it from exploding.

Civil Defence teams from Al Karama, Jumairah, Al Rashidiyah and Al Qusais stations took part in the operation.
