Sharjah: A 10-year-old schoolboy sitting on a kerb inside his school was hit and killed by a woman who had come to pick up her daughter.

The woman is currently in police custody at Al Hira station. She accidentally pressed on the accelerator, instead of hitting the brakes as she tried to park in front of the kerb where the boy was sitting.

The Egyptian boy Khalid Yaser Ali, died on the spot from severe internal injuries, police said.

The Iranian mother had come to pick up her daughter from Ibn Khaldoon Private School in the Al Azra area. The boy's body has been transferred to the morgue and an inquiry is presently underway, police said.

This is the second such accident to take place at a school in Sharjah in less than 10 days. In the first incident, a schoolgirl was killed after she was run over by a motorist inside the school parking lot.
