No intention of killing girlfriend, says Filipino security guard
A Filipino security guard did not intend to kill his girlfriend when he stabbed her after discovering that she had received text messages from other men on her mobile phone, a court heard on Tuesday.
Dubai: A Filipino security guard did not intend to kill his girlfriend when he stabbed her after discovering that she had received text messages from other men on her mobile phone, a court heard on Tuesday.
Police records show that the 34-year-old suspect had admitted stabbing his girlfriend after they scuffled because she allegedly drank liquor with a number of male strangers.
"I am not guilty ... I did stab her but I didn't have any intention to kill her. I also consumed liquor," the man told the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The public prosecutor contends that the security guard, L.O., committed premeditated murder by repeatedly stabbing his girlfriend, J.P., with a knife in her chest, stomach and neck.
A 33-year-old Filipino witness who is the suspect's roommate, testified during the hearing.
"My wife, brother, friend and I share the same room with the suspect ... Once previously, the suspect discovered that [his girlfriend] had received some text messages on her mobile phone and this provoked him. He stabbed her in the chest with a knife ... She lodged a complaint against him but later dropped it," the witness said.
"On the day of the incident, the deceased opened the door suddenly and collapsed on the ground in a pool of blood. The suspect, who was still stabbing J.P., threatened us with the knife when we tried to stop him," he continued.
Another 37-year-old Filipino witness claimed in his statement that the suspect was drunk when he stabbed the victim. The witness alleged that they had surrounded the suspect and taken the knife out of his hand before calling the police.
A Yemeni policeman testified that the deceased had been discovered writhing on the ground in pain and bleeding heavily.
The trial continues.
