Dubai: Police have arrested two men for possessing a large amount of counterfeit dirham and dollar notes. Police arrested the two suspects, an African and a European of African origin, before they could sell the money.
Personnel from Dubai Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID), were following up routine security procedures in the Al Baraha area near the Jeesco Supermarket.
Police grew suspicious of a car which was parked in the area with the two men inside. The suspects sped off when they saw police approaching. The CID wrote down the car's number and chased the suspects. They found the car locked and abandoned after the suspects had fled the scene.
After getting permission from the public prosecution, police found $500,000 and Dh300,000 in counterfeit notes. They also found a bag full of a powder used in counterfeiting, along with a chemical formula.
Investigations led police to arrest the suspects by checking the car's number. The first suspect, identified as A.F., confessed to renting the car from a rental agency and possessing the counterfeit money and the substances found. The other suspect denied any connection with the case.
