Medical probe begins in girl's death

The Kalba Public Prosecution Office is investigating the death of a seven-year-old girl on Friday after complications arose from routine surgery.

Kalba: The Kalba Public Prosecution Office is investigating the death of a seven-year-old girl on Friday after complications arose from routine surgery.

Hour Ahmad Al Naqbi underwent a surgery to remove her tonsils at Kalba Hospital on Thursday. After the operation she began to deteriorate rapidly amid complications from the surgery.

Hour died on Friday morning and her shocked family accused the surgeon of neglect.

The family filed a complaint with police, who carried out an investigation before passing the case on to the Public Prosecution.

Warned

On Saturday, Health Minister Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qattami formed a medical committee to investigate the incident. Ebaid Al Kindi, Director of Kalba Hospital, warned against making any judgment on the case until the medical committee's investigation is complete.

Al Kindi said he expected the committee to conclude their investigation by today.
