Dubai: The media - both electronic and print - is one of Dubai Police's main partners in achieving success and benefiting the community, said Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police.
Major General Al Mazeina said all print and broadcast media were key partners in the successes achieved by the security services - whether by assisting them in detecting criminal issues or by supporting the police in spreading awareness.
Solving puzzle
According to Major General Al Mazeina in the past week alone the media has contributed to solving the puzzle of the murder of an Ethiopian housemaid whose bruised body was found in a parking lot in Al Muteena.
The housemaid's sponsors contacted the police after seeing the picture of their housemaid following a public appeal in the media, he said.
Child reunited with family
Another incident involved a child who had been found wandering the streets of Al Qusais. The child was taken to Al Qusais Police Station while a local radio channel sent an appeal to the public about the missing boy.
The child had been walking in the middle of traffic while looking upwards at an aircraft before being spotted by a police officer. The public appeal helped reunite the child with his family, said Major General Al Mazeina.
He said it was not the first time that the media had helped in assisting the police. They published certain crimes to raise public awareness, he said while adding that by publishing certain cases the media helped identify victims of crime.
