Mechanic gets jail for forcing sister into prostitution
A mechanic faces five years in jail for sexually exploiting his sister and bringing her to work as prostitute in Dubai
Dubai: A mechanic faces five years in jail for sexually exploiting his sister and bringing her to work as prostitute in Dubai, a court ruled Tuesday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 27-year-old Bangladeshi mechanic, A.C., and sentenced him along with his compatriots, a 31-year-old printer, S.I., and a 25-year-old housemaid, R.A., to five years in jail.
Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout convicted them of committing human trafficking by cheating A.C.'s 30-year-old sister after convincing her that she would work as a housemaid in Dubai. They forced her to have sex with strangers for money. The trio had pleaded not guilty.
The court also sentenced two other unemployed Bangladeshi men, M.H. and A.M., to one year each in jail for aiding and abetting the trio. "The convicts will be deported after serving their punishments. The two flats which were being run as brothels will be locked. The flats in Al Hamriya and Abu Hail will only be reopened upon permission from prosecutors," the judge said.
Exploitation
Prosecutors said A.C., S.I. and R.A. exploited the sister's situation and forced her to have sex with men under threat and duress. She was also beaten for that purpose.
The sister stated that her brother promised to get her work in one of the emirates as a housemaid. "My sister-in-law informed me that A.C. found for me a job in the UAE… my brother and S.I. picked me up from Sharjah airport. They took me to a flat in Dubai. I was kept there for a few days until they took me out to the market and bought for me underwear and skirts. When I was told to have sex with men for money, I rejected. Then next day when they called my brother, he came and told me angrily ‘your mom hangs out with strange men so why would you refuse!'" she claimed.
Prosecution records said the sister phoned her husband, who agreed to pay 60,000 Bangladeshi Taka to A.C. to not have her work in prostitution. Records said she escaped from her captors' hands and reported to the police, who later arrested the suspects.
