Manager 'attempted to rape' woman she met in a Dubai bar

Dubai: A manager has denied attempting to rape a woman he met in a bar after she offered to drive him home because he was drunk.
"I didn't attempt to rape her... I am innocent and have done nothing wrong," the 34-year-old Jordanian told the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.
Records said the suspect, J.N., met the 35-year-old Canadian woman in a bar. She offered to drive him to his house in his own car "because he had heavily imbibed alcohol and I didn't want him to land in trouble."
The Public Prosecution charged J.N. with attempting to rape the woman after he forced her into his bedroom, before she fought back and foiled his rape attempt.
The woman claimed that she met the suspect in a bar where she had gone to listen to Arabic music.
"I had a drink with him and he was sweet... when we left the pub around 3am, I sympathised with him and told him I would drive him home because it would be very dangerous if he drove under the influence of liquor. I accepted his invitation and drank juice at his flat where I stayed for 30 minutes. Then I left in a hurry after he tried to molest me when I was leaving," said the woman.
She testified that she asked the building's security to escort her to his flat as she had forgot her purse.
"When I knocked on the door, he pulled me in from my hair in front of the security and attempted to rape me in the bedroom," she alleged.
A neighbour reported the incident to the police who took the suspect in for questioning.
