Dubai: A mechanic has been jailed for breaking into a waitress's bedroom, assaulting, threatening and raping her at knife point and robbing her of her mobile phone while under the influence of alcohol.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 41-year-old Turkish mechanic to 18 years in jail. He will be deported after serving his jail term.
The court also ordered that the case be referred to the specialised Civil Court.
Records said the mechanic trespassed into the 29-year-old Filipina's room, held a knife to her face and screamed "don't shout ... I will kill you," before raping her.
The Filipina, M.S., said she ran behind the defendant when he left the room and cried for help. A number of workers arrived and called the police. She sustained a cut to her arm.
