Man who 'killed in self defence' faces death
The Appeal Court has upheld the death sentence against a man who shot dead one of his pursuers in Dibba.
Fujairah: The Appeal Court has upheld the death sentence against a man who shot dead one of his pursuers in Dibba.
M.H.M., an Emirati, was convicted of killing compatriot K.B. last year by the Criminal Court which also handed down a Dh1,000 fine and ordered the confiscation of the murder weapon.
Two Emirati residents of Dibba suspected that M.H.M. had a female passenger with him in his car and proceeded to chase him. As the chase continued, M.H.M. suddenly stopped his car and fired shots from a handgun at the car of his pursuers, fatalling hitting K.B.
Upon his arrest M.H.M. claimed he feared for his life and acted in self-defence.
The announcement of the death sentence was repeatedly put on hold in the lengthy criminal case, as members of the victim's family refused to grant M.H.M. a pardon.
