Fujairah: The Fujairah Appeal Court has upheld a conviction of causing death by dangerous driving against an Indian man and ordered him to pay Dh200,000 to the victim's family.

The 29-year-old Indian must pay the money as compensation for the accidental death of his compatriot.

He was also fined Dh1,500 for injuring another two in the same incident, causing damage to public property and possessing alcohol.

The fatal accident took place on the Maktoom Road, between Masafi and Al Dhaid.

According to court records, the 29-year old attempted to overtake a truck, but appeared to lose control of his car, which slammed against a light pole in the middle isle before swerving again and hitting the side pavement.

The out-of-control car run over the victim, killing him immediately and slightly injured another two.

A police check of the driver's car revealed he had alcohol drinks on board, though no charges of drink driving were brought against him.
