Fujairah: The Fujairah Appeal Court upheld a four-year prison term on Tuesday against an Afghan national convicted on drug charges.

A.K. must also serve one month for entering the country illegally and will be deported after completing his jail term.

The court gave a similar jail term to another four Afghans, caught with the first suspect, from four years to a month, followed by deportation. All five suspects were arrested by Fuj-airah police under suspicion of illegally entering the country. After carrying out a search for the suspects, a roll of hashish was found with the first suspect, A.K., but nothing was found with the other four.

After a urine test revealed traces of opium in all five, the Fujairah Public Prosecution charged A.K. with possession and consumption of drugs.

The other four suspects were charged with consuming illegal drugs and all five faced charges of illegally entering the country.

In the Criminal Court, all five admitted consuming opium in their own country but denied possession.
