Man arrested trying to sell drugs to police
The student was captured carrying 1.62 grams of heroin in Al Quoz after a sting operation.
Dubai: A student landed in hot water for possessing 1.62 grams of heroin, which he tried to sell to an anti-narcotics agent in front of a mosque in Al Qouz area.
Records said the anti-narcotics police caught the suspect, A.J, red handed, selling heroin for Dh1,250.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with possessing 1.62 grams of the banned substance with intent to sell.
An Emirati anti-narcotics first lieutenant testified that one of his informants told him the defendant was searching for someone to buy heroin from him.
"The informant (a secret agent) contacted the suspect who agreed to sell him heroin in front of a mosque in Al Qouz...after the deed was struck, an anti-narcotics squad which was monitoring the area raided the place," stated the first policeman during the Public Prosecution questioning.
The witness confirmed he saw the informant paying the police money - which was photocopied to be used as evidence against the suspect - to the defendant. Records said A.J escaped from the hands of police who chased him for several blocks before re-arresting him.
An Emirati anti-narcotics second lieutenant testified he spotted Dh2,200 on the ground which the suspect threw down during the chase.
Jail guards failed to bring the 26-year-old Emirati suspect from his detention centre to present him before the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday but the trial continued without him.
