Fujairah: A 40-year-old man died on Sunday morning after the road building vehicle he operated fell 20 metres down the mountain in Fujairah.

Pakistani driver, M.M.N., was working on the new Dubai-Fujairah freeway, currently under construction through the treacherous Hajar Mountains.

A Fujairah traffic police source said the motor grader, operated by the victim, was working close to the edge of a built-in cement road structure.

Police suspect the accident happened as the driver tried to reverse the heavy vehicle used for flattening surfaces.

The incident took place about 10 kilometres south east of Fujairah.

Upon authorities arriving the victim was pronounced dead and his body removed from the wreckage.
