Dubai: The UAE Minister of Justice has called on law schools to carefully study the country's economic and social developments and reflect them in their programmes and plans.

"Law schools across the UAE must be upgraded swiftly to enable them to keep up with the developments of legislations and judgments handed down by local and federal supreme courts. In short, law schools should keep up with speed and dynamism of the UAE,'' Dr Hadef Bin Jua'an Al Daheri told a group of local and international judicial experts on Thursday.

He said the UAE's judicial institutes are required to achieve two main targets. "Firstly, judicial institutes should unify the conditions and exams for accepting judicial trainees as this have many practical benefits, which will eventually set a unified standard for judges at federal and local levels. Secondly, institutes must focus in their programmes on practical applications and avoid theoretical subjects,'' said Dr Al Daheri in his keynote address during the inauguration of the Third Judicial Congregation for the Directors of Courts and Public Prosecutions in the UAE.

Dr Ahmad Bin Hazim Al Suwaidi, the General Director of the Dubai Courts Department, which is hosting the congregation, said: “The discussions and actions taken during the 3rd Judicial Congregation particularly focus on new concepts and best practices that will enable UAE Courts and Public Prosecutions to effectively handle cases involving real estate and financial disputes.''
