Sharjah: A massive fire erupted at a labour accommodation in Al Urooba area in Sharjah.

Hundreds of labourers were living illegally at that accommodation, said the police.

The workers managed to escape but the accommodation was fully gutted.

Police said two cars parked near the accommodation were also gutted.

Police suspect that an air-conditioner exploded, causing the fire.

The fire erupted at around 4pm and firefighters put out the blaze at around 6pm.

Police said the accommodation is located in an area not meant for labourers.

"The owner of the labour accommodation will be questioned," said a police officer.
