Dubai: An intoxicated waiter has been jailed for six months after a court found him guilty of threatening to chop his boss's body into pieces with a knife.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 40-year-old Ukrainian waiter of threatening to kill his Iranian boss.
Prosecutors accused the defendant, I.M., of threatening his boss, M.M., verbally by saying: "If you don't listen to me I will kill and cut you into pieces," and threatening him physically.
Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir also fined the accused Dh1,000 for drinking liquor. The Ukrainian will be deported after serving his jail term.
The Iranian victim testified that he was forced to drive his car slowly in the middle of a road to capture the attention of a police patrol which swiftly intervened and rescued him.
"The accused called me on the day of the incident and asked me to escort him [to] a business meeting with the chef of one of the hotels in Deira … he walked into the hotel while I waited for him in my car. Later he came out and went into the car, then he asked me to park in a side parking. He asked me: ‘How much does a human life cost?'. Then he rephrased the question and asked me: ‘How much does your life cost?'… thinking he was joking, I looked at him and asked if that was a joke. To my surprise he said no and took out a knife and posed it to my belly," said the boss.
