Dubai: Dubai Municipality inspectors, in cooperation with Dubai Police and the Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department, last month caught 201 people including street vendors, beggars and illegal car washers.
The sweep against the lawbreakers also resulted in the seizure of low-quality goods and pirated CDs.
Civic inspectors conduct daily spot checks of streets and public places to prevent street vending, begging and car washing by individuals violating Ministry of Labour rules.
Inspectors at the Control Unit of the Markets Administration Section in the Assets Management Department also carry out regular checks.
In June 2009, they caught a total of 201 people including 131 street vendors, 28 beggars, 28 car washers and 14 illegal butchers.
A total of 2,474 counterfeit products, including garments, perfumes, cameras, and fake watches were confiscated.
Also 2,435 DVDs, featuring pirated films including 62 pornographic movies, were seized.
Two hundred and eighteen items of foodstuffs including boxes of fruits and vegetables were also seized last month.
The lawbreakers, who belong to various nationalities, are to be handed over to the Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department for deportation in coordination with Dubai Police.
The seized goods are to be destroyed and disposed off safely after legal action has been taken against the violators.
The public is urged to call the Municipality Emergency office on 04-2232323 to report such illegal activities.
